19 FIRs registered, over 30 crushers sealed, scores of tippers, trolleys and chained excavators seized
Environmental compensation levy to the tune of Rs. 67 crore imposed in a period of 7 months- Girish Dayalan

Nagar, August 19, 2020: Reviewing the status of mining activities in the district, Deputy Commissioner, Girish Dayalan informed that Mohali Administration has zero tolerance towards illegal mining. “We are dealing the menace with stern hands; no such activity would be admissible in the district,” said he.
Giving details of the action initiated against illegal miners in the period between January1 to August 15, he informed that as many as 19 FIRs have been registered and over 30 crushers have been sealed in Majri and Mubarakpur area. Scores of tippers, trolleys and excavators have been seized besides environmental compensation levy to the tune of Rs. 67 crore has been imposed on the defaulters and recovery notices have been issued.
Despite COVID containment challenge, all the inspection teams have been activated and administration would go full throttle to curb the menace, said Dayalan. We have installed CCTV cameras at vulnerable spots and are in the process of geo- fencing them, he added.
Deputy Commissioner said that administration extends full protection to the whistle blowers, so people can come forward and report such activity to Additional Deputy Commissioner, General ADC(G) who is the nodal officer and would be continuously monitoring the mining activity in the district. Action on the complaints received has been expedited and as of now no major complaint is pending, said he and informed that directions for strict action and prompt FIR registration against the illegal miners, have been given.
