Mansa, August 20, 2020: Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL), the largest thermal power plant in Punjab, provided immediate relief to arrest the damage caused due to dam breach in Perron village of Mansa. Several acres of fields were on the brink of submerging following a canal breach owing to rains in Perron village of Mansa, about 6 kilometers away from the plant on Tuesday, 18 August night.
Upon receiving word from the villagers, the TSPL team immediately coordinated with the irrigation department to stop waterflow from the upstream end which helped reduce canal water volume and flow rate drastically. The TSPL team also diverted the flow towards its own reservoir to prevent it from flooding and damaging the fields. Additionally, to support the farmers and village youth, working since wee hours of Wednesday morning in fixing the canal breach, TSPL sent an earth mover and requisite manpower and other equipment at the site to help plug the breach. Together, Perron residents and TSPL staff worked for nearly five hours to plug the breach.
Vikas Sharma, CEO and WTD, TSPL said, “TSPL is stands firmly with our communities at all times. In fact, serving the state of Punjab is our reason for existence. We are committed to proactively lending support to the community in times of need and endeavor to do everything within our capacity as required by them.”
