Accused were to sell baby boy for Rs 4 lakh, new-born reunited with family
Jalandhar, August 22, 2020: The Commissionerate Police on Saturday have arrested five accused including panchayat member and sanitation employee of the Civil Hosptial besides safely rescued a new-born baby boy who was abducted from civil hospital two-day ago.
The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh Gopi (22) panchayat member of Village Maheru, Gurpreet Singh Peeta (24), Ranjeet Singh Rana (25), Davinder Kaur of Khurshaidpur Colony in Nakodar and Kiran (28) of Lamba Pind. Kiran works as a sanitation employee in Civil Hospital for the last seven years.
Disclosing more information, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the accused were to sell the baby boy about Rs 4 lakh and distribute the amount equally between them.
As per preliminary interrogation of the accused, Commissioner of Police said that on August 20 at 12.40 pm, the accused Gurpreet Singh Gopi and Gurpreet Singh Peeta reached in the backside of Civil Hospital in Bolero (PB08-CG-2473) and were in constantly in touch of three remaining accused Ranjeet, Davinder Kaur and Kiran on phone and later came inside mother and child centre of the hospital.
Following which, Kiran abducted the baby boy from the ward and gave to Gurpreet Singh Gopi and Gurpreet Singh Peeta near the stairs and disappeared from there in Bolera immediately.
Commissioner of Police further added that both accused handed over the new-born baby boy to Davinder Kaur and Ranjeet Rana at Gandra-Pandori road.
He told that immediately after the incident, a team led by ADCP-1 Vatsala Gupta, ACP Harsimrat Singh, CIA Head Harwinder Singh was set up to crack the case and nab the accused beside ensuring safe rescue of the new-born.
He said that the team carried out the detailed probe and arrested Gurpreet Singh Gopi from his office and while others were nabbed from their houses. The new-born baby boy was safely recovered from a room where Ranjeet Rana and Davinder Kaur were living, he added.
He said that Davinder Kaur used to arrange the deals of egg donation by women for the families having no child.
Gurpreet Singh Bhullar also said that all the accused would be taken on the police custody to grill them further to know about more persons involved in this racket and to whom they were going to sell the new-born baby boy.
He said that the new-born baby boy has been reunited with the family in the civil hospital by the team amid the presence of the doctors of the hospital.
