Rs. 60 crore project's work alloted to Baroda based company; 20 per cent work completed depite COVID restrictions
Water pipeline to be laid upto Sector-66 in Phase-1
Chandigarh, August 23, 2020: To ensure optimal utilization of surface water and to reduce the load on underground water, Punjab Housing and Urban Development Department has decided to supply canal based water to the residents of SAS Nagar (Mohali).
An official spokesperson of the H&UD Department said that a water pipeline is being laid by GMADA in Mohali. The work has been allotted to a Baroda based company M/s Spunpipe & Company at a cost of Rs 60 crore. As per the availability of water, the pipeline is being laid upto Sector 66 in Phase-1. In phase-2 the pipeline would be extended to Aerocity and IT city. The phase-1 work is to be completed by February 2021and about 20% work has been completed by the agency despite the COVID-19 restrictions.
After completion of work, Mohali would get additional 20MGD water to fulfill the water supply requirement of the residents.The pipeline would start from the Water Treatment Plant of Sinhpur, he added.
Notably, the work has been allotted on 05.02.2020 but due to COVID-19 lockdown has been started in May 2020. In phase 1 about 17 km pipeline would be laid and in Phase 2 about 20km. Presently 10MGD canal water is being supplied to Mohali.
