Ironical that farmer's constitution right is being oppressed on Constitution Day: Punjab CM
Chandigarh, November 26, 2020: Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday criticized the way the BJP-led centre government is handling the ‘Dilli Chalo’ farmer’s protest.
On Thursday morning, Farmer Organisations Delhi Chalo program turned violent at the Punjab-Haryana border at Shambhu when young farmers uprooted heavy barricades erected by police. Rapid Action Force fired tear gas shells and used water cannons against the farmers. Young farmers retaliated by pelting stones at police.
In the series of tweets, Captain reiterated that it is an irony that on the Constitution, the constitutional right of farmers is being oppressed.
Captain further criticized the Haryana government for not allowing farmers to pass through the public highway peacefully and provoking them to resort to force.
Terming the step taken by the Haryana government and police to block the farmers proceeding to Delhi as undemocratic and unconstitutional, Captain said that Manohar Khattar led government is making tyrannical use of brute force against peacefully protesting farmers.
Dont indulge in strong-arm tactics against farmers: CM to BJP
Captain has asked the neighboring state Haryana CM to let farmers farmers ‘take their voice to Delhi peacefully. Further, he asked the BJP party to direct the state governments not to indulge in such strong-arm tactics against the farmers.
“The hands that feed the nations deserve to be held, not pushed aside,” said Punjab CM.
