Progressive Federation for the Blinds to observe Int’l Day of Persons with Disabilities as Black Day
Ferozepur, November 30, 2020: Progressive Federation for the Blinds – PFB - has decided to observe International Day of Persons with Disabilities – IDPwD - as Black Day on Dec. 3, by wearing black cloth strips on the arms in view of anti-visually impaired policies of the government.
Speaking to the media persons, Anil Gupta, General Secretary, PFB said, the politicians representing the masses are not politicians in the real sense as they take a decision keeping in view their vote bank.
He said, it is very unfortunate that the only government institution established for the visually impaired at Jamalpur near Ludhiana was upgraded to 10+2 in 2008, which decision has not yet been implemented. Not only this, all vacant posts meant for blinds, is lying vacant, up to the level of 10th class in the education department and the process of filling up of 130 posts of backlog, in Local Government department was stopped at the last moment.
He said, considering it as vital challenges were being faced by the people with disabilities, the global community should come forward to work for their development to uplift this class, in all sectors.
Making an appeal to the Punjab government, Gupta said, the government should consider filling up all vacant posts reserved for disabled persons on priority besides honouring the other genuine demand of allowing the free travelling of a person in the buses along with the disabled person, so that they too could live a comfortable life like the normal man.
He also appealed to all disabled persons to observe the International Day of Persons with Disabilities – IDPwD - as Black Day on Dec. 3 by wearing a black cloth strip on their arms to register their protest and present a memorandum to the local district administrative officer at the district headquarters.
