Jalandhar, December 21, 2020: For Dal Khalsa and its allied groups the Protesting Farmer is Person of the Year 2020 as they had shown the way and courage to challenge the “authoritarian regime” of the mighty PM Narendra Modi and his fascists policies.
This was announced by party leaders at a press conference here today. They released the poster in this regard.
Explaining the rationale behind their decision, party spokesman Kanwar Pal Singh said when the government of India enacted three contentious farm laws, the farmer dissented and demanded its withdrawal and they did not dejected even when the answers came back in the form of tear gas, water cannons and batons.
He said since the agitation doesn't belongs to any individual or particular organization, considering the farmer as one entity, we decided to name The protesting farmer as person of the year.
Accompanied by party general secretary Paramjit Singh Tanda and president of Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP) Paramjit Singh Mand, he said the history is in the making. Taking a swipe at Modi for repeatedly harping on benefits of so-called farm laws, he said other than him and his coterie no one including the farmers trusted his words. Farmers are more than convinced that these “black” laws if implemented will jeopardise their livelihoods and economy.
Everywhere this year, men and women, young and elders, students and activists took to streets to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA+NRC+NPR). Like farmers, they also showed courage. However, the totalitarian regime of the saffron party framed and imprisoned them.
He said the name calling (Khalistanis, Urban Naxals etc) of the farmers’ agitation by people in power backed by Godi media has met with its waterloo.
To a question over the deadlock between government and farmer organizations, he said time would tell whether the BJP government will repeal the laws or use states militarily might to quell the agitation, but one thing is sure the Modi phenomenon created in the last six years by RSS and BJP has begun to dismantle.
He condemned the Govt for using arm-twisting tactics against those who are backing the Kisan Andolan.
Mand, who is heading the SYP was founded at Amritsar on this day twelve years ago said the participation of tens of thousands of youth in the agitation have marked the rise of a new generation.
