Todays’ recovery of 13,000 ltrs lahan in village Kilche
Illicit liquor flows freely in Ferozepur, 1,08,400 ltrs recovery during Jan. 2021
Ferozepur, January 15, 2021: The border districts battling with hooch tragedy, the authorities are eager to crackdown against the free flow of illicit liquor but despite claiming to keep a strict vigil on illegal liquor trade continues unabated in the border villages of Ferozepur.
At the same time, during the continuance crackdown on the brewing of illicit liquor, by keeping a strict vigil and getting tip-offs, along the Sutlej River in Ferozepur district by the Excise, Police and Narcotic Cell, 1,08,400 ltrs ‘lahan’ – kachhi daaru – including 13,000 ltrs today recovered during Jan.2021 during the joint raid conducted in the enclaves of river Sutlej in the surroundings of village Kilche.
During 2020, 20,76,357 lakh litrs lahan was recovered in Ferozepur district, which comes to around 5,688 ltrs per day.
An old-timer of villager said, majority of the population in border villages belong to minority communities and most male members of the village are daily-wagers. These people have not been getting any lucrative employment offers. Thus indulging in illicit liquor trade to make both ends meet.
Divulging with details, Karambir Singh Malha, ETO informed that during the earlier raids, 24,000 ltrs on Jan.4 at Kilche, , 24,000 ltrs on Jan.6 at Ali Ke, 21,600 ltrs on Jan.9 at Chandiwala, 25,800 ltrs on Jan. 12 at Hari ke and today 13,000 ltrs at Kilche village.
He said besides recovery of lahan, 13 tarpaulins, 10 iron drums and 8 silver utensils were also found used for extraction of illicit liquor which was taken into custody, as evidence. However, the entire recovery was destroyed there and then to avoid its misuse as there had been a major hooch tragedy taking the lies more than 100 persons in Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts.
He said the instant case was handed over to Balbir Singh incharge of Narcotic Cell for investigation and registration of a case.
