Bathinda, February 17, 2021: The Indian National Congress scripted a spectacular victory securing 43 of the 50 seats in the Bathinda Municipal Corporation, ousting the Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP.
This is the first time in 53 years that Bathinda Mayor will be from the Congress party. For Finance Minister Manpreet SIngh Badal, it is also a personal victory since he had been tirelessly working for Bathinda ever since he was elected an MLA from Bathinda four years ago, and became a minister in the Capt Amarinder Singh led Congress government in Punjab.
It was a victory that came after a lot of hard work since the sitting Member of Parliament from Bathinda belongs to the Akali Dal, and the party along with its previous ally, the BJP, had been dominating affairs in Bathinda for over two decades.
“The tide has turned. Bathinda has turned a page in history,” Manpreet Singh Badal told the media after the victory that saw the party win 85 percent seats. The Akali Dal won only seven, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and BJP drew a blank. As he thanked all Bathinda residents, he complimented the people for making the right choice in voting for the Congress.
“This is a vote for the Congress. This is a vote for the people of India who have stood up to the might of those vested interests who wish to destroy India’s agriculture, India’s rural economy, and ride roughshod over people’s will and aspirations,” Manpreet Singh Badal said.
The election results should be a wakeup call for stooges who are relentlessly attacking Indian farmers, workers and the middle classes. “Listen to the voice of people before taking any decisions,” the Finance Minister said. Those who trample over voices of people are consigned to the dustbins of history.
The Finance Minister also gave a shout out to everyone stating that everyone should work together towards creating a better Bathinda which will become a role model not only for Punjab, but for entire Northern India.
