Chandigarh, February 25, 2021: Chandigarh University Gharuan will host the 29th Edition of Senior National Men & Women Wushu Championship from 26th February 2021 to 2nd March 2021. To be hosted by the Wushu Association of India, the 26th Senior National Wushu Championship will see men and women teams from 28 States and 8 Union Territories. More than 1000 players all over India will participate during the 5 day National Championship. Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Minister for Sports, Youth & NRI Affairs, Government of Punjab would preside the opening ceremony on 26th February 2021. Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, President, Wushu Association of India along with Arjun Awardee, Wushu Players Pooja Kadian, Rajesh Handu, Bimoljit Singh and Sandhya Rani would also be present during the inauguration ceremony at the Sports Complex of Chandigarh University.
While giving details about the championship, Mr. Sohail Ahmed, CEO, Wushu Association of India, said, "The 29th edition of National Men and Women Wushu Championship will witness two forms of the game; Sanshou and Taolu. The men’s tournament has been divided into 9 weight categories Under 44 kg, -48 kg, -52 kg, -56 kg, -60 kg, -65 kg, -70 kg, -75 kg, over 75 while the women’s tournament will see players participating in Under 40 kg, -44 kg, -48 kg, -52 kg, -56 kg, -60 kg,--65 kg, over 65 kg weight categories”. Special protocols keeping in mind the COVID-19 have been put in place both at the venue and stay of the players at the university campus, he added.
