Indian Newspaper Society asks Google to raise publisher share in advertising revenue
New Delhi, February 24, 2021: Representing print media houses in Indian, the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) has written a letter to Google demanding raise in the publisher share in advertising revenue.
INS has asked to increase publisher share of advertising revenue to 85 %.
In a letter addressed to Google India’s country manager Sanjay Gupta, INS President L Adimoolam asked the search engine giant to properly share the advertising revenue and bring transparency in revenue channel.
“Publishers are facing very opaque advertising system, as they are unable to get the details of Google’s advertising value chain. The Society insisted the Google should increase the publisher share of advertising revenue to 85 % and also ensure more transparency in the revenue reports provided to publishers by Google,” read the letter.
In a letter, INS pointed that the credible content generated by newspapers while employ thousand of journalists at the considerable expense has given Google its authenticity in India.
The Society further notes the over the years, publishers across the world have been raising issue of fair payment for content and of proper sharing of advertising revenue with Google. INS also pointed out that Google has recently agreed to better compensate and pay publishers in France, European Union and notably in Australia.
