Students awarded degrees in 23rd Annual Convocation of SLIET
Sangrur, March 6, 2021 :
The 23rd Annual Convocation of Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal was held on Friday, 5th March 2021. Keeping in view the safety measures during the post pandemic situation, this year’s hybrid mode of convocation was the first of its kind in the history of the Institute.
The Convocation was graced by the virtual presence of Minister of Education, Govt. of India, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ as the Chief Guest. The Union Minister for Education addressed the young graduates of 2020 and emphasized on the role that the youth of the country will play in determining the country’s progress in the pandemic stricken world. Dr. Pokhriyal complemented the Institute management and faculty on efficiently taking up their role as mentors by delivering online education to its students and converting the adversity of the pandemic crisis into an opportunity for introducing new learning strategies. The Chief Guest appreciated the Institute initiatives which were in line with various projects of Govt. of India like Atamnirbhar Bharat Mission, Swacch Bharat and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan etc. He also admired the Institute’s multi entry-exit policy that is in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020.
The Chief Guest was accompanied by Sanjay Dhotre, Minister of State for Education, Govt. of India, as the Guest of Honor who highlighted the significant part technical institutes like SLIET can play in shaping the future of the country. Also in attendance through virtual mode was Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, Board of Management, SLIET, whose presidential address encouraged all the graduating students to face all theimpending obstacles and challenges in their life with persistence, patience, and perseverance.
The Convocation commenced with a Welcome Address by Dr. Ajat Shatru Arora, Dean (Academics) followed by the Institute Report by Dr. Shailendra Jain, Director SLIET. The Director in his Annual Report touched upon the accomplishments and achievements of the Institute in the previous academic year in spite of the challenges thrown in by Covid-19 lockdowns. The scholastic and co-scholastic activities undertaken by various departments of the Institute were elaborated and the high points of the previous session were discussed. This was followed by the award of degrees and medals to the young technocrats of the Institute. In all, 33 Ph.Ds, 100P.G. Degrees, and 507 U.G. Degrees were awarded to students in varied disciplines. In the end, the Director of the Institute administered the pledge to the graduating students and the Ceremony ended with a vote of thanks to the distinguished guests.
Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal is known for its verdant campus in the Malwa region of Punjab and for catering to the educational needs of students from diversified sections of the country, especially from the rural and humble backgrounds.
