Chandigarh, March 9, 2021: The legislators of the ruling, as well as opposition parties, condemned the act of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of raiding Sukhpal Khaira's residence in Sector 5 here on Tuesday.
During the house proceedings, Shiromani Akali Dal MLA from Lehra, Parminder Singh Dhindsa, cabinet ministers Charanjit Singh Channi and Navjot Sidhu, and Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Kharar Kanwar Sandhu raised this issue in the assembly.
Some of them also requested the Vidhan Sabha speaker, Rana KP Singh, to pass a resolution in the house for stopping these kinds of activities. The leaders believed that Khaira was raising the issues of agitating farmers following which he has been targetted by the central government.
Parminder Singh Dhindsa said, "ED has now become a tool of the central government. Sukhpal Khaira has raised the issues of farmers protesting at the Delhi borders and the controversial issue of Navreet Singh's death. The central government, through its tool (ED), is now targetting Khaira. This should be stopped."
Charanjit Singh Channi said, "The intentions of the central government are condemnable. Today, the fire has broken out at a single house, but it can soon spread towards houses of other leaders. The ED is trying to suppress Punjab and the massive agitation of farmers. By pressurizing them, the central government is looking to include the opposition leaders in BJP. "
Navjot Sidhu said, "I have not spoken a word for a long time but now I feel this is a matter of concern. By showing its power, the ED is twisting the arms of Punjab leaders who are working for the farmers. Is this a democracy? I will never keep quiet on such issues."
Kanwar Sandhu said, "By conducting raids at this crucial time, the ED is trying to intervene in the house proceedings and also to penalize Khaira. They should have taken permission from the state government before raiding the house of Khaira."
