DSGMC elections :Tough contest but Badal Dal has an edge with winning trend
[DSGMC elections :Tough contest but Badal Dal has an edge with winning trend] [Enlarge] ENLARGE -An observation by babushahi.com team -Anti-Incumbency wave was visible factor in Delhi Gurdwara Poll compaign -Sarna faces strong rebellion from within -Badal Dal successfully managed to creat divide between traditional base of Sarnas -Defiance of Sri Aakal Takht Sahib remains the core Sikh issue ------------------------------ New Delhi, January 25 (Babushahi.com Bureau):As few hours are left for prestigious poll of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee , the trend for election results is emerging with clear indications in favour of SAD(Badal) . Though the political analysts describe this election as a close fight between Sarna group and Badals, but this time in actual, the citadel of Sarna Brothers seems to be in doldrums. The change in reigns of DSGMS seems to be imminent after analysing various aspects including the issues raised by both the groups in the election campaigns, change in loyalties of leaders and workers of both factions and the tilt in the attitudes of voters this time. The survey conducted by Babushai.com team reveals that the Badal Group has an edge over his rival Sarna Brothers who had been controlling the Delhi Gurdwara affairs for the last 9 years. Though their actual results will be out only on January 30 but the feedback gathered babushahi.com team, from different circles including political analysts, intelligentsia and media, clearly indicate that the shiromani Akali dal headed by Badals is certainly ahead in 32 seats whereas Sarna group candidates are putting impressive show on against 11 seats only. In the last turn the Badal group could only win 6 seats. It is beyond dout that the Sarna Brothers in Delhi had been enjoying the status of real representatives of Sikh community because of their close proximity with Sheila Dixit Government & Congress Led UPA rule, apart from the Badal group\'s away from the National Capital scene. But this time there were certain important factors which came to the help of Parkash Singh Badal to sing tunes against Sarna Brothers. The major issue which Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Badal and other senior SAD leaders has successfully raised against Sarnas is the violation of Akal Takht edict in celebrations of significant events in Sikh history as decided and mentioned in Nanakshahi calendar. The other allegations which SAD leaders had been able to exploit against Sarna Brothers include the misutilisation of funds of Delhi Gurdwaras , illegal sale of Gurdwara properties, favoritism in employing his own favourites DSGMC, degradation in education standards in Institutions run by this religious body, resentment in employees of committee and so on. It happened for the first time that a strong wave of rebellion has been witnessed against Sarna group and its many senior leaders have left Sarna Akali Dal and joined the fold of SAD Badal. It is also pertinent to mention that the Badal group has carried its campaign systematically and strategically which attracted support from eminent personalities like H.S. Phulka and former C.B.I Director Joginder Singh. The young educated leaders of Delhi UNIT OF SAD like Manjeet Singh G.K. and Manjinder Singh Sarsa are very presentable faces as compared to old style Sarnas. They have steered the campaign by logical canvassing of the various positive features of the party manifesto, leading to change in the behavior of Sikh voters. The impact of DSGMC election results will not be limited to the control of this religious body in Delhi but it can also effect the prospects of Congress and SAD in the coming Lok Sabha elections in 2014. If Badal group takes the lead it can give a boost to the party and make it more important in the national scene. In case of victory of Sarna group, it can give an impetus to the Congress Party with its popularity among Sikh masses. The results of these elections may be on any side but the important issues came into for like eradication of unemployment problem, promise for provision of laptops and other modern gadgets for use by the youth to take pace with the rest of the world. There were also allegations and counter allegations by both the factions for use of unfair and unethical practices like bribing the voters and bestowing other favours to attract the votes support. It is also apprehended that even after elections there can be an unsocial move of purchasing the loyalties of elected representatives to take control of this supreme religious body in the national capital. Although SAD has visible upper hand during the whole poll campaign but the final results will depend on many seen/ unseen factors operating during the last 48 hours particularly during the actual polling. How the poll machinery conducts the polls in a free and fair manner? What is roll of the Delhi govt and the security forces deployed for poll duties? Will any emotive issues be exploited by any party or individuals to allure the voters? Can the money and muscle power be used to rig the polls at some places? And last but not the least, how far individual candidates succeed to get their influence convert into real votes in their respective constituencies. It may be noted that Sikhs constitute nearly 7 per cent of 1.6 crore population of capital city of Delhi. Yet only 4 lakh Sikhs who are supposed to be Amritdhari Sikhs, are eligible to vote.
The voting will be on Jan.27 and counting of votes and results will be declared on Jan.30.2013
