Professor Pritam pays tribute to Tarsem Bahia
Chandigarh, April 9, 2021: Professor Pritam Singh, Professor Emeritus, Oxford Brookes Business School, Oxford Brookes University, UK paid tribute to Tarsem Bahia who passed away recently.
Recalling the time with his former colleague Bahia, Tarsem said that he has wonderful memories of working with him.
"I have wonderful memories of working with him when I was the President of the Panjab University Teachers Association (1985-86). In Punjab and Chandigarh, we had collectively in cooperation with the All India Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations had led the nationwide strike of university and college teachers for better pay and working conditions," recalled Professor Pritam.
He shared that he along with the Tarsem Bahia have also worked in the Senate of Punjab University (PU).
"He was a teacher activist of great integrity and I had the first-hand experience of fighting together with him against what we used to call 'sharks' who controlled the Syndicate and Senate of PU. In the specific conditions of PU, these 'sharks' constituted the coalition of pro-Congress and pro-BJP people. Tarsem Bahia with his long association with teachers organizations and the Senate and Syndicate of PU knew the inner working of these right-wing tendencies and how to resist their moves and sometimes even defeat them," professor Emeritus Professor Pritam shared.
"He kept in touch with me even after I moved to Oxford. I pay heartfelt tributes to an educationist and dedicated and the well-informed trade unionist of the teaching community," he further added.
