Says, consistent action against bootleggers and smugglers yields promising results during the pandemic period with massive recoveries 1790 FIRs, 1252 arrests made besides penalty of Rs. 3.92 crore imposed against the violators of Covid appropriate behavior,
Jalandhar, April 11, 2021: Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has set yet another benchmark of policing by scrupulously implementing Covid appropriate behavior in the city amid the pandemic in the last year. Divulging the details, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar lauded the contribution and cooperation displayed by the people of Jalandhar during the crisis. He said that without people’s cooperation this mammoth exercise would not have been possible adding he called upon people to continue to extend their support to police in maintaining the government’s protocol in its letter and spirit. Disclosing more information, the CP stated that the police have registered as many as 1790 FIRs and arrested 1252 persons in violation of Covid-19 protocol fixed by the state government. He also added that a penalty of over Rs. 3.92 crore on 68061 offenders has also been imposed to ensure strict compliance with the government’s guidelines in the city. These FIRs, arrests, and penalties comprise flouting of norms such as wearing masks, home quarantine, spitting at public places, social distancing, political and social gatherings, etc. The Commissioner of Police said the police has also landed a helping hand in the Covid-19 testing drive by integrating Police Nakas with sampling teams at various locations in the city. He said a total of 30067 RT-PCR tests of those flouting Covid appropriate behavior have been conducted across the city with the help of the police department. Apart from the enforcement part, the Jawans of city police have volunteered in huge numbers in vaccination and Covid-19 testing drive. Mr. Bhullar said a total of 1080 police personals have undergone RT-PCR tests and about 2731 have received the first and 1273 second dose of Covid-19 vaccination. Meanwhile, coming down heavily on the trading of illicit liquor, the Commissionerate Police has also taken decisive action against bootleggers, and smugglers during the last year. The CP added that as many as 655 FIRs have been lodged including the arrest of 721 persons from March 22, 2020, to April 10, 2021, alongside recovery of 14,625 ML illicit liquor, 1,97,54,225 ML licit liquor, 1448 Liters of Lahan, and 19 boxes beer. Similarly, under operation Red Rose 547 FIRs and 603 arrests were made during the last year with massive recovery. Further, the Commissioner of Police reiterated his commitment to serving the people of the city with the renewed zeal and enthusiasm while hailing the efforts of the entire team of Jalandhar Commissionerate Police in implementing Covid appropriate behavior in Jalandhar city. He appealed to people not to lower their guard against this invisible enemy and continue supporting enforcement agencies to ensure containment of this disease.
