District & Session Judges to decide mode of hearing in district courts
Chandigarh, April 17, 2021: In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the states of Punjab, Haryana, and Union Territory (UT), the Chief Justice has asked the District and Session Judges to take a call on the hearing of the cases as per prevailing COVID conditions in their respective jurisdiction.
“The District and Session Judges in the state of Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh shall access the prevailing local conditions including the intensity of spread of COVID-19 pandemic in their respective session divisions and shall accordingly decide at their level regarding hearing of the cases through the physical or virtual mode and also the category of the cases to be heard,” read the order issued by Registrar General Sanjiv Berry.
It is to be mentioned that the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha have tested positive for Coronavirus.
