Chandigarh police busted illegal racket of 'Remdesivir' medicine by arresting five; 3k injections seized
Chandigarh, April 18, 2021:
The Operations Cell of Chandigarh Police has arrested a group of 5 persons involved in illegal selling of ‘Remdesivir’ medicine for in local markets in at high prices.
The arrested accused have been identified as Abhishek (21), a resident of Kerala, Susheel Kumar, a resident of South Delhi, Parbhat Tyagi, a resident of Bhopal in MP, Philip Jacob Auxilium Pala and KP Francis, both residents of Kerala.
ASI Surjit Singh of Operations Cell along with police party, while on patrolling, received secret information regarding some illegal dealing of Remdesivir, used in corona disease, is in process at a hotel in Sector 17 here. Acting on this, the police raided there and apprehended all the accused red handed.
As per the police, all were dealing in sale and purchase of Remdesivir medicine, without any permit or license. After facts' verification it was found that Abhishek PV and Susheel Kumar, Parbhat Tyagi , KP Francis and Philip Jacob were making a fraud/illegal deal of medicine without any permit or license and committing an offence under section 420, 120B IPC and Section 7 of EC Act 1955 and Section 27 of Drugs and cosmetics act 1940.
A raid was also conducted at medicine manufacturer plant at Baddi by the cops regarding which medicine they were dealing and 3,000 illegal injection of Remdesivir were seized in the presence of Local Drug Inspector. Glaring irregularities were found in the physical verification of stock pointing towards diversion of medicine towards local market after the ban on export by government. Company director Gaurav Chawla , a resident of Zirakpur, was also arrested. Further investigation is going on.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted by the UT police for conducting thorough probe into this matter.
