Complete lockdown imposed in Delhi from tonight
New Delhi, April 19, 2021: Delhi will be under the complete lockdown for the next six days from Monday (tonight) till next Monday i.e. April 26, 2021.
The lockdown will be effective from 10 pm tonight till 5 am next Monday.
During the lockdown, the essential services will continue. The government will soon release the notification on the same.
While making the public announcement, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “As you all know I have never been in the favor of the lockdown but I also believe that the when the health system of the city is on the verge of collapse there is need for a strong measure.”
“Today, 25,000 cases have been reported in Delhi and the health system of Delhi is now under the immense pressure. The Delhi government has worked a lot in improving the health infrastructure which is why we have been able to manage till now but presently Delhi health system is on the verge of collapse,” he said.
He further requested the migrant labourers not to leave Delhi during the lockdown.
“It was not an easy decision but we had no other choice. I want to appeal all the migrant labourers not to leave Delhi during this six-day lockdown. I hope there will be no need to impose a big lockdown,” Kejriwal added.
