COVID-19 : Demand for liquid oxygen goes up in Jalandhar
Jalandhar, April 20, 2021: As COVID spread accelerates, demand for liquid oxygen has gone up in Jalandhar district and district administration has approached Punab Health Systems Corporation – PHSC, to make arrangements for at least one liquid oxygen tanker (16MT) on daily basis.
Added here, there had been new 380 cases and 6 deaths, in Jalandhar on Monday making the total tally of 37105 confirmed cases, 3206 active. However, 32879 have also cured and the death toll is1020. Whereas in a single day in Punjab, 84 deaths were reported with 4653 new COVID cases and the state figure for active cases stands at 35,311 and the total number of COVID positive cases to date are 3,04,660.
District Magistrate in his letter to MD, PHSC has stated that district Jalandhar has a daily requirement of 3000-5000 cylinders. Apart from this, 400-500 cylinders are being supplied to districts Hoshiarpur and Nawanshahr. Thus, district Jalandhar has a total requirement of approximately 4000 cylinders daily.
It is further stated that The district can now only produce 2400 cylinders daily from atmospheric oxygen from two of its plants namely M/s Shakti Cryogenics and M/s Indian Air Products, Jalandhar. The remaining requirement is met from the liquid oxygen which is supplied through vendors from Panipat, Sonipat, Rajpura and Bathinda districts.
DM has urged the PHSC authorities to make arrangements for supply of one liquid oxygen tanker (16 MT) per day for Jalandhar.
