Woman among three Nepalese held with 13.6 kg opium by Mohali police
Mohali, April 23, 2021:
The district police arrested three Nepali nationals including a woman for allegedly possessing 13.6 kg opium on Thursday.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Amrit Pun (21), Shakti Uli (21) and Kamla Barai (34).
Satinder Singh, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mohali stated that the police team including Dr. Ravjot Grewal, SP (Rural), Gurbakshish, PPS, DSP Derabassi, and Inspector Sukhbir Singh, SHO PS Lalru, apprehended two men and a woman on Thursday while patrolling from near the Peer Baba Dargah on Ambala-Chandigarh Highway in Lalru.
The suspects were carrying shoulder bags with them and were caught on suspicion. The contents of their bags were searched by the cops in the presence of Rupinderjit Singh, DSP PBI/NDPS Mohali. The bags belonging to Amrit, Shakti and Kamla contained 5.208 kg, 5.208 kg and 3.197 kg of opium respectively. The trio was nabbed by the cops and an FIR under Sections 18/61/85 of the NDPS Act was registered at the Lalru police station.
During interrogation Amrit and Shakti revealed that both of them previously worked as labourers in Shimla and both were married. The woman, Kamla Badai said that she was a housewife, whose husband lives in Saudi Arabia.
The trio also revealed that they had brought the opium from Nepal and they had decided to sell it to their permanent customers in Punjab and Shimla.
A thorough interrogation of the suspects is underway in order to identify the other members involved in this network, said Inspector Sukhbir Singh.
