Farmers to celebrate May Day as Mazdoor Kisan Ekta Diwas
Farmers are ready to make every sacrifice for their rights: Kisan Morcha
New Delhi, April 30, 2021: In a joint meeting, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Central Trade Union decided to observe May 1 as Mazdoor Kisan Ekta Diwas.
"Three agricultural laws will affect the workers as well, so the workers are also fighting equally in this struggle. At the same time, the farmers are also mobilizing against the oppressive labor code brought by the central government. Tomorrow, the workers and farmers will jointly challenge the government strongly on all protest sites," the SKM stated.
Amid the ongoing farmers' agitation against farm laws, the protesting farmers celebrated the 400th birthday anniversary of the 9th Sikh Guru Teg Bahadur.
During the ocassion, Samyukt Kisan Morcha said that it is the lessons of the sacrifice of the gurus and martyrs that the farmers are fighting so strongly. The union said that the farmers are ready to make every sacrifice for their rights.
"Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji fought for humanity beyond religion and caste and gave his sacrifice. Guru Ji fearlessly waged a fight against exploitation by the government, which is still being fought by the people and has been winning continuously. On this day, the farmers remembering Guru Tegh Bahadurji also emphasized his progressive writings. He was also called a warrior for human rights by many scholars," stated SKM.
The farmers union said that it's been more than five months since farmers have been sitting on the borders of Delhi but the central government is forcibly imposing laws on the farmers.
"Taking inspiration from Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, the Sikh community is fighting against this exploitation and said that they are ready for every sacrifice. Apart from farmers, the reason for the participation of every class in this fight of farmers is also the inspiration of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and other martyrs. Today, with inspiration from Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, farmers are fighting against oppression, while many organizations are helping people who are affected by the Corona pandemic. Farmers and social welfare organizations who were discredited and abused by the governments and a section of society are still engaged in social service," the union further added.
Religious organizations including farmer leaders also participated in the Samagam which lasted from 9 am to 5 pm. They called for strengthening the protest by joining in any form. The leaders said that as long as the oppression is taking place, the disciples of the guru will continue to fight against oppressors.
