'Naked' woman among others booked for duping 81-year-old man of Rs 13.6 lakh by blackmailing him for his 'naked' video
Mohali, May 10, 2021:
Mohali police booked a woman and some unidentified persons for allegedly duping an 81-year-old man of Rs 13.6 lakh by blackmailing him.
The victim stated in his complaint that a woman named Preeti Sharma had randomly video called him on WhatsApp on April 28. As Preeti was nude, she seduced the victim on call and asked him to remove the clothes. The victim, who was being manipulated by Preeti, removed his clothes too and started talking to her. After a while, the girl disconnected the call. The victim received the text from Preeti’s number that his video call was recorded by her and she would soon upload it to social media. She also blackmailed him saying that she would file a police complaint against him for sexually harassing her.The lady demanded Rs 20 lakh from him for not filing complaint.

On the next day, the victim received a WhatsApp call from an unknown person, who introduced him as an official of Delhi Cyber Crime cell. He told the victim that his video was uploaded on YouTube and for removing it, he had to call an official of YouTube. When the victim called that person, he demanded Rs 21,500 for deleting his video from YouTube. The old man transferred the amount to him, but after some time, that person again called him and asked for Rs 43,000 for deleting some more videos of him. The victim, being afraid of his insult, again transferred the amount to his bank account. Then on April 30, another random person called the victim and introduced him as an Inspector. He told him that Preeti’s parents had seen her nude video and they beaten her following which she committed suicide. He told the old man that Preeti’s father was demanding Rs 2 lakh to dispose of the case. The victim again sent the money to the given bank account. The person pretending to be ‘Inspector’ kept calling the victim for a few days and demanding money from him by blackmailing him.
At last, the old man realized that he was being blackmailed and lured by a gang. In total, he sent Rs 13,64,500 to them through several bank transactions.
The victim submitted his complaint to the Mohali police following which a case was registered at the Phase 1 police station under Sections 420, 384 and 120-B of the IPC.
SHO of Phase 1 police station, Shivi Brar said, “We have registered an FIR. The suspects are yet to be arrested."
