Two cops shot dead at check post in Jagraon
Ludhiana, May 15, 2021:
Unidentified car-borne persons allegedly shot dead two police officers deployed at a checkpost near the new grain market of Jagraon in Ludhiana.
The deceased have been identified as Bhagwan Singh and Dalwinder Singh. The duo was posted as Assistant Sub Inspector in Crime Investigation Agency of Ludhiana Rural police.
As per the information, the incident took place on Saturday evening when a team of Jagraon police laid a blockade near the new grain market following a tip-off of possible smuggling. In the meantime, the cops signaled a truck to stop. At the same time, the assailants came on a Hyundai Grand i10 and opened firing on the police party. The assailants sped away on their car. When ASI Bhagwan Singh and ASI Dalwinder Singh were rushed to the hospital, where one was declared brought dead while other succumbed to his injuries during treatment. In this incident, another cop also got injured.
The police reached the spot and started the investigation. The shells were recovered by the police from the crime spot.
SSP Charanjit Singh informed that two cops posted at the check post were killed by unidentified persons. The investigation was initiated and the suspects will be traced soon, he said.
After this incident, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh also condoled the death of both the cops. He said the culprits would be nabbed soon.
The CM said in his tweet: "Unfortunate fatal attack on two of our brave CIA policemen in Jagraon. Intensive manhunt is on and the culprits would be nabbed soon. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and we will ensure that they are taken care of in every possible way".
