Mohali, May 16, 2021:
Mohali police booked a security guard of a society for thrashing a 15-year-old boy, when he went to deliver food to a COVID patient with his mother.
The victim has been identified as Gurman Bhullar, a resident of Sector 94, Mohali. Gurman is a class 10th student.
The accused, Harshpreet Singh, a resident of Nanheri village near Kharar, has been booked by the police for hitting Gurman on his face with his ‘karha’.
The incident took place on Saturday when Gurman along with his mother, Imanbeer Kaur, went to TDI Wellington Heights in Sector 117 here to deliver a free meal to a COVID patient.
As per the victim, his mother cooks food in their house for COVID patients of Mohali and they both deliver meals at the doorsteps of these patients every day. For the past around two weeks, they were delivering food for a COVID patient, residing in the TDI Wellington Heights. They used to give the food packet to Harshpreet Singh, who was posted there as a security guard. But, Gurman and his mother recently came to know that the guard was not delivering the food to the patient as he himself was eating the food every day. On noticing this, Gurman’s mother complained to the security supervisor following which the supervisor scolded him (Harshpreet) and also asked him to apologize for the mistake. On Saturday, when the victim and his mother gave food to the same guard, he started abusing them. After that, the guard hit Gurman’s face with his ‘karha’ multiple times due to which he sustained deep wounds on his nose and forehead. When Gurman’s mother tried to intervene, the guard also pushed her with force following which she also got injured.
Gurman’s mother took her son to the IVY Hospital here where doctors informed them that a minor plastic surgery was needed to treat him as he had sustained severe injuries.
In the meantime, the accused reached Balongi police station and submitted a false complaint to the police that he was insulted by a woman and her son. Later, the victim and his mother also reached the same police station and submitted their complaint and narrated the whole incident.
“After investigating the matter, we have registered an FIR against the security guard, Harshpreet Singh under Sections 323 and 341 of the IPC on the complaint of Gurman’s mother. He is yet to be arrested,” said Inspector Baghwant Singh, SHO Balongi police station.
“I am yet to get my treatment from the hospital. The police has assured us of taking legal action against the guard,” said Gurman. He added, “My mother provides over 200 meals to COVID patients in Mohali for their lunch and dinner.”
