Mohali: Newborn girl found dumped in bushes
Mohali, May 16, 2021:
The district police recovered a newborn girl from the bushes on the banks of a nullah passing near Phase 11 on Saturday night.
As per the police, someone dumped the baby in the bushes and fled so that she would fall in the nullah and no one would know anything about her.
The matter came to light when passers-by informed the police over phone of spotting the girl. On getting the information, Phase 11 SHO Jagdeep Singh Brar and investigating officer ASI Nirmal Singh rushed to the spot and took the newborn girl into their custody.
ASI Nirmal Singh said that when the police reached the spot, two women and some other persons were taking care of the girl. The girl was wearing underwear. Police rushed the girl to a nearby private hospital and after the doctors gave her first aid, she was shifted to Civil Hospital in Phase 6. Now, the baby is being taken care of by the nurses in the maternity care there.
According to police, the baby appears to be just 10 days old. The police have started visiting government and private hospitals in and around the city to find records of deliveries of the last 10-12 days.
A case has been registered against the unidentified parents at the Phase 11 police station. The police have started the investigation and also forwarded the information to the District Child Protection Officer along with other higher authorities for further action.
