Vigilance Bureau nabs ESI woman employee for taking bribe

The Vigilance Bureu (VB) of Mohali on Thursday arrested a woman employee of Employees State Insurance (ESI) Corporation when she was taking Rs 10,000 as a bribe from a woman.
The accused has been identified as Chander Mohini, who was posted as the branch manager of Employees State Insurance (ESI) Corporation in Kharar here.
A team of VB laid a trap on the complaint of Sukhwinder Kaur, a resident of Singhpura village in Mohali, and the accused was caught red handed while she was receiving the amount from Sukhwinder Kaur here.
As per the complainant, her husband Mahinder Singh was doing the job of welding in a private company of Kurali. Recently, Mahinder met with an accident while he was working in his company. He fell down from a height following which both his legs got fractured. He is unable to do work now and is currently undergoing his treatment at the PGI in Chandigarh. Mahinder has a registration with ESI Kharar following which he would be given his salary till the time of his treatment, said the complainant.
But when Mahinder did not receive his salary, Sukhwinder visited the office of Chander Mohini and asked her to provide two months (April and May 2021) salary of her husband. Chander Mohini told her that her husband could not get a salary without doing his work. When Sukhwinder Kaur requested her, Chander Mohini demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 (Rs 5,000 for each month of salary) in return for her favour. She also threatened her that she would cancel the form of her husband if she (Sukhwinder) fails to give her bribe.
The complainant approached the police following which a team of VB Mohali laid a trap on Thursday and caught the accused red-handed.
DSP Harvinderpal Singh of Vigilance Bureau Mohali said that a case has been registered against the accused woman at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Mohali. The accused will be produced before a local court on Friday, said the DSP.
