Ludhiana GST Scam: CGST raids main accused Sahil Jain’s relatives' place, seizes Rs 40 lakh
Ludhiana, June 20, 2021: In an ongoing investigation in Multi-crore fake invoice/GST scam, the CGST (Central Goods and Services Tax) department carried out a raid at the residence of the main accused Sahil Jain’s relative place.
Acting upon specific information, the anti-evasion wing of the CGST Commissionerate Ludhiana conducted a search at the residential premises of Sahil Jain’s relative from where Rs. 40 lacs approx. have been seized, suspected to be proceeds of the crime.
“Tracking crucial documents and whereabouts of the accused in a Rs 33 crore GST fraud case, the CGST authorities landed up at a relatives’ place who themselves got caught indulging into GST evasion scam. It was believed that some crucial documents relating to the GST fraud were secreted at his relatives' residential premises where the search was conducted on June 19. Upon search, it was found out that Sh. Yogesh Jain, a distant uncle of the accused Sahil Jain, is running a firm called M/s Maha Bhagwati S Jain Traders, a hosiery enterprise. Rs. 40 lacs approx. were recovered from the cupboards of a bedroom, suspected to be the proceeds of the crime and, thus, seized,” informed Ashutosh Baranwal, Principal Commissioner.
“On questioning the whereabouts of the cash retrieved at the residential premises, Yogesh Jain cofessed that he was evading GST by indulging into undeclared supply transactions, receiving and supplying goods without issuing proper invoices and mostly generating kaccha bills for the goods supplied,” he added.
Sahil Jain, the kingpin of the GST fraud, was arrested by this office on 11-11-2020 for running a bogus billing racket worth Rs. 393 crores and availing ITC worth Rs. 33 crore
It is interesting to note how the GST evasion indulged by Yogesh Jain has been unearthed. The tax authorities were pursuing the family members of the accused, Kingpin Sahil Jain, but instead, Yogesh's distant links with Sahil Jain got the former into a pool of trouble with the tax authorities.
