Zirakpur police arrested taxi driver among three involved in illicit liquor sale
Mohali, June 20, 2021:
Zirakpur police arrested three men including a taxi driver, who were involved in illicit liquor sale in Zirakpur area. A team of police and Excise department also recovered 72 bottles of illicit liquor and a Hyundai Xcent car from the possession of the arrested men.
The accused have been identified as Sagar Sharma, a resident of Panipat, Rahul Grover, a resident of Hisar and Gaurav Batra, a resident of Fatehabad.
Mohali SSP Satinder Singh informed that following a tip-off, a team of police and excise department led by Excise Inspector Lakhmir Chand and Inspector Jaspreet Singh raided their fixed spot of illegal business (behind a hotel at Singhpura chowk, Zirakpur). The trio was nabbed by the cops and 72 bottles, made for sale in Chandigarh only, were recovered.
SSP said that the accused Sagar was a taxi driver. He used to purchase the liquor from Chandigarh and Haryana and sell it to Zirakpur residents at higher price. He used to park his taxi behind a hotel and sell the bottles to customers. Rahul and Gaurav were also involved with him in this illegal business.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 61-1-14 of the Excise Act at the Zirakpur police station. Further investigation is on, said the police.
