Bargari case: SIT presents challan against 6 accused
Faridkot, July 9, 2021: Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating Bargari sacrilege issue presented challan against 6 accused in a local court here today.
These six persons including Sukhjinder Singh, Shakti Singh, Ranjit Singh, Bhola, Baljit Singh, Nishan Singh, and Pardeep Singh were arrested on May 16 in a case about strewing of torn pages of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari on October 12, 2015.
After the thorough investigation by SIT on this matter on Friday, the challan against all the six accused was put in the court of Ms. Tarjani Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Faridkot.
During the hearing in the case, SIT also informed that the magistrate of all the accused wanted in the case arrested in one go. The next date for the hearing has been fixed to July 20.
The case in the desecration of the holy book was registered on October 12, 2021, on the statement of Kulwinder Singh, manager Gurudwara Sahib Bargari. The case was transferred to CBI for investigation on November 2, 2015.
On September 6, 2018, the Punjab government issued a notification on taking back sacrilege cases from the CBI. On July 4, 2019, the CBI submitted the joint closure report in the three cases registered in the matter.
On the directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Punjab government in May 2012 formed new SIT Chairmanship of S.P.S Parmar, IPS, IGP Border Range, Amritsar, other members being Rajinder Singh Sohal, AIG/CI Punjab, Lakhbir Singh, ACP/ERS Amritsar, and Inspector Dalbir Singh, IC CIA Faridkot and others.
