What is the average landholding of a farmer in Punjab? Reveals Govt's latest data
Chandigarh, July 24, 2021: As per data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, the average landholding of a farmer in Punjab is 3.62 hectares.
Similarly, the average landholding of a farmer in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu, and Kashmir state is 2.2 hectares, 0.95 hectares, and 0.59 hectares respectively.
The information was shared by the ministry in reply to the question raised by Congress MP Partap Singh Bajwa in Parliament during the ongoing monsoon season.
Bajwa has raised several questions over the Promotion of Cooperative Farming.
Over the question of steps taken by the government to promote Cooperative Farming so as to make farming financially viable, the Ministry headed by Narendra Singh Tomar has replied that GOI has launched Central Sector Scheme of financing facility under Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) to boost Agriculture Infrastructure relating to Post Harvest Management (PHM) and Community Farming Assets in the country.
