Retired Punjab Police cop allegedly kills his wife
Mohali, September 7, 2021: A 72-year-old retired Head Constable of Punjab police allegedly killed his wife at his residence in Phase-11 here on Tuesday. The police arrested him from the spot on murder charge.
The accused has been identified as Kartar Singh (72). Kartar Singh allegedly murdered his wife, Kuldeep Kaur (69), by slamming her head repeatedly on the floor. The couple was not staying together due to strained relations, said the police.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 9.30 am. Kuldeep Kaur along with her son was staying at police lines in Sector 66 here and on Tuesday, she went to meet Kartar on his request at his house in Phase 11 here. The couple had heated arguments over an issue following which the accused slammed her head repeatedly on the floor.
On getting the information, the police reached the spot and found the door of the house was locked from inside. On breaking the door, the police found Kuldeep Kaur lying in a pool of blood and Kartar was sitting next to her. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Phase 6, but the doctors declared her dead.

As per the police, the accused, Kartar was also arrested in 2017 for allegedly firing a gunshot at his brother in law and injuring him seriously. After this incident, the couple had strained relations and both were staying separately. In that case, he was sent to jail and he came out of jail around 8 months back and started staying alone in Phase 11.
The couple had two sons; one is working as head constable at SSP office in Mohali, while another one is in Australia.
The postmortem of the victim was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members. Kartar Singh will be produced before a court on Wednesday, said the police.
