Centre asks Punjab govt to provide adequate security to suspended IGP Paramraj Umranangal
Chandigarh, September 15, 2021: The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the Punjab government to provide adequate security to suspended Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Paramraj Singh Umranangal and his family.
The central government asked the Punjab government for providing adequate protection to Paramraj Singh Umranangal and his family following his request to the Central government for the same.
“The request of Paramraj Singh Umranangal has been examined in the ministry in consultation with the central security agency. As per their report, during the militancy days in Punjab, his family faced the ire of Sikhs terrorists. His father was killed by a Bhindranwale Tiger Force militant in 1987 in his house at the village Umranangal was attacked by the militant in 1988,” the letter of the ministry to Punjab government read.
The Central government noted that being a prime accused in the Kotkapura-Behbal Kalan police firing incident, Umranangal faces hostility in India and abroad.

“In the past, Gurpartap Singh Pannu has accused him and other senior officers in Punjab of alleged atrocities on Sikh and sought to know the addresses of their kith and kin residing abroad. The state government of Punjab is requested to provide adequate protection to Paramraj Singh Umranangal and his family members matching their threat perception,” the ministry stated.
