SC reserves order on plea challenging Dinkar Gupta's appointment as Punjab DGP
Chandigarh, September 15, 2021: The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved order on the special leave petitions challenging Dinkar Gupta's appointment as Punjab Director General of Police (DGP).
The matter was listed for the hearing before the bench of Justice L N Rao, Sanjiv Khanna, and BR Gavai. After hearing the matter of both the petitioners and respondent, the court reserved the order.
It is to be noted that petition in the case has been filed by IPS officer Mohammad Mustafa and Siddhartha Chattopadhay who were not considered by the Punjab government for the appointment as the top officer of Punjab.
While hearing the petition on Tuesday, Justice Sanjiv Khanna had observed that the core policing areas might differ from state and that each state has its own policing areas.
