Mohali: One woman died, two severely injured after a speeding sedan runs over them
Mohali, September 17, 2021:
In a tragic incident, a 50 year old woman was killed, while two other women got severely injured after a speeding sedan ran over them in Phase 10 here on Friday.
As per the police, the trio was resting at one corner of the parking area when the speeding Hyundai Verna, driven by Harpreet Singh (22), lost its control and hit them. The accused was arrested by the Phase 11 police after the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Om Veeri (50), while the injured, who are battling for life at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32, Chandigarh have been identified as Mamta and Ram Veeri. Om Veeri was married and was residing at Jagatpura colony here, said the police.
The incident was occurred at around 2 pm on Friday, when three women working as safai karamcharis, deployed with Delhi-based Company Lions Private Limited, were taking a nap after having lunch in the parking area of Hotel Sarao in Phase 10 here.
The accused, Harpreet along with his friend had tried to flee from the spot, but the other workers caught him and handed over to police.
Harpreet is a resident of Phase-11 and studying in a private college. An FIR has been registered against him under Sections 279, 304, 337, 338 of IPC at Phase 11 police station here.
A few minutes after this incident, all the sanitation workers gheraoed Phase 11 police station and demanded strict punishment against the accused.
