Chandigarh, October 23, 2021: Congress leader Damanvir Phillaur, while appreciating new Transport Minister Amrinder Singh Raja Warring for tightening the noose on transport mafia in the last 21 days and increasing the income of Punjab Roadways Department by 17.24 percent, has demanded a probe by ED or I-T Department into the ill-gotten money of transport mafias.
In a letter written to Transport Minister Warring, Phillaur has said that a probe by the ED or Income Tax Department into illegal activities of transport mafias will be a big service to the cause of the state. Phillaur has asked Warring to write to ED and Income Tax department to investigate the transport mafia. Every penny meant for the poor people but grabbed by transport mafias should be recovered, he said.
Expressing dismay over how Punjab’s transport mafias were running their buses without a valid permit for a longer period as has been exposed by the Transport Minister, Phillaur said that there is a need to expose the dirty nexus between transport mafias and their political mentors.
“How the Badal's misused power to buy buses with people’s money is not hidden from anyone. To put every penny of the public back in their pocket, it is very important to investigate the illegal income of transport mafias by the ED or Income Tax Department,” he said.
Phillaur said that the Transport Minister is doing a great job. “He is young and dynamic. He can work. In the coming days, new Roadways buses will be seen on the roads of Punjab. The buses bought by transport mafias by looting public money will no longer ply now,” he said.
