Chandigarh, November 30, 2021: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the complete waiver of farmers' and farm laborers' debt on Punjab.
In a letter to PM, Channi said that Punjab Government is ready to take the share of the burden of the debt along with the Government of India.
He shared that a leadership of farmers recently met him in Chandigarh with their demands and one of their major issues was farm debt.
Channi wrote that the announcement of repealing of the farm laws by his government gave a ray of hope to the farmers.
"Prime Minister Sir, the farmers of Punjab are the ones who picked up the gauntlet of the security of the nation and become the bulwark of the green revolution. The godowns will with edges today testify their relentless toil. The long journey of scarcity-driven days of PL 480 (ship to mouth) to the nation having the Right of Food to its citizen is the proof of the hard work of the farmers and farm laborers of this nation. However, while ensuring food security, our self-pride farmers have crippled themselves the weight of the mountain of debt," Channi wrote.
