Confusion over reopening of toll plazas in Punjab as some farmers unions refuse to lift dharna
Babushahi Bureau
Chandigarh, December 15, 2021: The reopening of the toll plazas in the state faces another roadblock as the some farmer unions have announced to continue dharnas if rates are at toll plazas in Punjab are to be doubled.
The farmers have earlier announced to lift dharna from over 100 protest sites including toll plazas where they have been protesting since October last year on i.e, December i.e on Wednesday 15 but as per the farmers group continue dharnas at various toll plazas
On Wednesday evening, Bharti Kisan Union (Ugrahan) leader Joginder Singh Ugrahan had warned the state government that the farmers will continue to stage their dharnas at the toll plazas if the toll rates are doubled.
Ugrahan uploaded a video on Facebook on Tuesday in this regard and said, “Due to farmers’ agitation, all the toll plazas remained shut for a year. But, now the government is trying to recover their losses by increasing fees of the toll. We appeal to them to charge previous fixed toll rates only. Otherwise, we have to resume our dharnas at these toll plazas.”
The farmers unions are however seem to divided at the call of resuming dharnas at toll plazas against the hike.
Speaking to Babushahi Network, Krantikari Kisan Union leader Darshan Pal Singh said that their farmer union has not given any such calls.
It is to be noted that farmers in Punjab have started in various places in late September and October last year before the members of farmers unions also headed to Delhi borders to stage dharna against the Central government's decision.
While the farmers return to Punjab after their year-long fight at Delhi borders against the three farm laws, a recent hike at toll plazas might lead to conflict between the Central government and farmers once again.
