Chandigarh, January 6, 2022:
Punjab cabinet minister Rana Gurjeet Singh blamed home minister Sukhjinder Randhawa and DGP Siddarth Chattopadhayaya for the lapses in Prime Minister Modi’s security during his Ferozepur visit on Wednesday.
Talking to Babushahi Times in this regard, Rana Gurjeet said, “The whole incident that happened yesterday during PM Modi’s visit is unfortunate and shameful. It should not have happened as he was our prime minister.”
He also equally blamed Central agencies for their lack of homework in finalizing the route plans. “I believe that the agencies of Centre are equally responsible for this as they were also not prepared in advance regarding advance route plans of the PM,” said the minister.
He also clarified, “If I am speaking against our own home minister and DGP, it does not mean that I am speaking the language of the BJP . I am a born Congress and will remain in Congress. But I am raising this issue as I believe it is really unfortunate.”
On formation of two-member high level committee by the Punjab government to probe lapses in PM’s security, he said, “The thorough probe in this regard is much needed and it is our responsibility to deeply investigate the whole matter as it is connected to the security breach of our prime minister” while adding that “whatever has happened, will cause a big loss to us as the PM had come here to inaugurate major projects of the state.”
Rana Gurjeet added that everyone is aware about the financial condition of the state and in such condition; the state government was planning to demand big financial packages from the prime minister. Secondly, he had to inaugurate two medical colleges of the state and due to cancellation of his rally, no one knows when their inauguration will be held, he said.
Showing concern on various issues of Punjab, he said, “I am the minister of Technical Education & Industrial Training, Horticulture, Soil & Water Conservation. We are suffering from a tough time as our ground water level is depleting continuously. With this, overconsumption of power is also adding to the woes of the state. In such cases, the support of the prime minister is much needed to the state.”
When he was asked about allegations of ‘empty chairs in PM’s rally venue’ by the Congress, he said, “No doubt, the majority of chairs were empty in his rally. Both are separate issues and they are now trying to cover up this.”
