Expel Rana Gurjeet from party : Demand Navtej Cheema and associates
Chandigarh, January 18, 2022: Sultanpuri Lodhi MLA Navtej Singh Cheema and his associates have demanded expulsion of Rana Gurjeet from party.
In a letter written to Sonia Gandhi, these members said that tainted RanaGurjeet Singh, who resigned as a Minister in 2018 from the Punjab Cabinet for his alleged involvement in a sand mining scam in the state and now he is trying his best to destroy the winnability of the Congress Party in the forthcoming elections.
They claimed that Rana Gurjit Singh is weakening the Congress by deliberately interfering in various constituencies of Doaba region such as SultanpurLodhi, Phagwara, Bholath, Jalandhar North, Banga etc. They said that tough they were apprising the state leadership of the party about his anti party activities, unfortunately he was reinstated in the Punjab cabinet instead of taking action against him. It is pertinent to mention that he is still facing serious allegations of illegal mining and has not received clean chit.
They urged Sonia Gandhi that after being re-appointed as Minister, RanaGurjeet Singh, while showing arrogance, has declared his son Rana Inder Partap Singh as independent candidate against the two-time Congress MLA of Sultanpur Lodhi, Navtej Singh Cheema. They said that this is nothing but a gross violation of party discipline as well as equal to stabbing the party in the back in the crucial moment when there is strong buzz of forming the government again. He is doing this because he is playing into the hands of opposition parties especially the BJP. He has close ties with the BJP due to his liquor business and sugar mills situated in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and other states.
They claimed that RanaGurjeet Singh also has close ties with Capt. Amarinder Singh and recently he helped his close confidante Amandeep Singh alias Gora Gill in joining Punjab Lok Congress party and with the support of RanaGurjeet Singh, Gora Gill is all set to contest from Bholath constituency. Besides, RanaGurjeet Singh has conspired with the BJP and Capt. Amarinder Singh to destroy the Congress party in Punjab. Under this conspiracy he is publicly making baseless allegations against PPCC president Navjot Singh Sidhu which is also a violation of party discipline.
Such indiscipline activities are damaging the party situation. Even the think tanks of Punjab are expressing worry over Congress’s situation. Satnam Singh Manak, executive editor of Ajit, largest Punjabi newspaper, has predicted that by going with the current indiscipline activities, Congress may repeat its history of 2012 election.
They urged party leadership that in view of the blatant breach and violation of party discipline by the tainted RanaGurjit Singh, We, MLAs/Legislators, request you to immediately withdraw his nomination from Kapurthala constituency and send a strong message to such leaders, who are weakening the party. In order to do so, he should be removed from the membership of the party.
