DLSA celebrates online Girl Child Day in Ferozepur
Ferozepur 24 January 2022: Following the guidelines of Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority (PLSA), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ferozepur celebrated online ‘Girl Child Day’ at Govt Sr Sec School Zira and Guruharsahai with the presence of Ekta Uppal, CJM-cum-Secretary, DLSA.
National Girl Child Day is celebrated to raise awareness among people regarding inequalities, discrimination, exploitation faced by the girls in society. It is an initiative undertaken by the Ministry of Women and Child Development with an objective to provide support and opportunities to the girls of India. The main focus is on changing society’s attitude towards girls, decreasing female feticide, and creating awareness about the decreasing sex ratio.
The day was celebrated online with the girls of both the schools when Jagwinder Singh, Civil Judge Junior Division, Zira and Luvpreet Kaur, Civil Judge Junior Division, Guruharsahai were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Ekta Uppal said, a woman is the creator of society and that is why the woman was given high status in this society.
Today is the age of technology in which it is very important for a woman to be educated. Giving a message to the girls, she said, they should create a healthy society by reading and writing as every educated woman has a special contribution in the society citing the example of Luvpreet Kaur, Civil Judge, and asked them to move forward in life by being educated.
Both Luvpreet Kaur and Jagwinder Singh also shared their views on the importance of celebrating Girl Child Day. They said the day is meant to create awareness about the rights a girl owns and to give them opportunities like everyone else, and to support the girl child of the nation and remove gender-based biases. It also calls for promoting awareness about the inequalities that a girl child faces and educating people about girls’ education.
