Chandigarh, January 24, 2022: Chandigarh Residents Associations' Welfare Federation (Regd.) (CRAWFED) has urged Administrator UT Chandigarh to enhance the timing of "Apni Mandi" in Chandigarh till 7 pm.
In a letter to Chandigarh UT Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit, the Association said that as "Apni Mandi" is getting closed at 5 pm due to COVID-19 restrictions, many residents are forced to buy fruits and vegetables from vendors at higher rates.
"Chandigarh is a semi-metro city, where adult family members are working to meet their two ends. Here most of the family members are working from 9AM to 5 PM in offices and reaching their home by 5:30 PM only. 'Apni Mandis' are organized in a sector/area only once a week for supplying vegetables/fruit to the residents. At present Apni Mandis are being closed at 5PM because of Covid restrictions, thereby forcing residents to buy fruit/vegetable at costly rates from roadside vendors / rehri in their sectors, once they reach back home. Thus, we request you to enhance the timing of 'Apni Mandi' in Chandigarh till 7 PM so that working couples can get benefited of buying fruit/vegetables at controlled rates," wrote Rajat Malhotra, General Secretary
