Chandigarh, January 26, 2022:
Congress has released its second list of candidates for the Punjab Vidhan Sabha polls on Tuesday late night. The list has 23 candidates and with this, the total number of candidates announced by the party reaches 109.
The list has the name of PPCC president Navjot Sidhu’s nephew and close aid, Smit Singh from the Amargarh constituency.
Similarly from Sahnewal seat, the party has fielded Vikram Bajwa, son-in-law of former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal. Bhattal is already a declared candidate from Lehra Gaga seat. Sahnewal seat also remained in headlines as infighting of Punjabi singer Satwinder Bitti and youth congress leader Lucky Sandhu was seen.
It is quite interesting and can also raise questions as the screening committee of Congress had decided to give the party ticket to only one member from a family.
Young leader & Congress MLA Surjit Dhiman’s son Jaswinder Singh Dhiman has replaced Daman Thind Bajwa, who got the ticket from Sunam in previous assembly polls.
The list also has names of two leaders, who were in the Aam Aadmi Party. AAP MLA, Jagtar Singh Jagga Hissowal, who joined Congress Party during the Vidhan Sabha Session, got the ticket from Jagraon. He is the sitting MLA from Raikot but will contest from Jagraon this time from the Congress.
Similarly, Ashu Bangar, who had recently quit the AAP even after getting the ticket, has been given the ticket from Ferozepur (Rural) seat as announced by Charanjit Channi.
From the Muktsar seat, former Punjab CM Harcharan Singh Brar's daughter-in-law Karan Kaur Brar will contest the polls.
