HARISH MONGA
Ferozepur, March 2, 2022: The Russia-Ukraine war has triggered swift condemnation by several countries; even the speed of such an international response has raised eyebrows across the world. Now the intellectuals, writers of this border town Ferozepur, have come forward to join the sensitive, thoughtful, and sympathetic people around the world, to express their concern demanding ‘War Not Peace’ as whoever is guilty of RU-War, the ultimate sufferer are the sons and daughters of parents.
Speaking on the occasion, Harmeet Vidyarthi – a renowned Punjabi writer, who arranged the gathering to express concern over RU-War - said that people have not forgotten World War II and Hiroshima Nagasaki and the world is once again on the brink of World War II. The ego of having nuclear power would be the cause of the destruction of the planet.
State Press Secretary of Krantikari Kisan Union (KKU), Avtar Singh Mahima termed the wars as a product of inhumane corporate policies and appealed to the people to oppose these warlords in one form or another.
Another young thinker Sukhjinder emphasized that even after the end of the war many people could not return home. Therefore, to make this world, a war-free world, every common man has to mobilize against war.
The intellectuals and writers, farmer leaders, and representatives of local NGOs – Sandeep Choudhary, Prabhjot Sonu, Dr.Satinder Singh Gurmeet Judge, Mehardeep Singh Avtar Puri, and others - demonstrated chanting slogans - "No war, No peace" and "Say No to war" by holding placards in their hands, joined the protest.
Making an appeal to both Russia and Ukraine governments to end the war, Dr.Satinder Singh said, “The question of price is not discussed over the impact of war, but in RU-War, it is ordinary students and their parents who will have to pay this price of hard-earned money and losing the loved-ones”.
