Anmol Rattan Sidhu assumes charge as Advocate General Punjab

Chandigarh, March 19, 2022: Anmol Rattan Singh Sidhu today assumed charge as the Advocate General, Punjab.
As part of his commitment to contribute his bit in the war against drug menace, the Mr. Anmol Rattan Singh Sidhu on the occasion also pledged to donate his salary as Advocate General for the treatment of drug addicts and their rehabilitation.
Disclosing this here today, the Advocate General said that he would start the noble cause from the village Maqboolpura under the guidance of Amritsar (East) MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur.
It is noteworthy that Mr. Anmol Rattan Sidhu was born on 1st May 1958 (Labour Day) in a farmer’s family. Starting his primary education in village school, Mr. Sidhu endowed with the iron will to make a mark in life, subsequently shifted to Chandigarh in 1975 and pursued higher education from Government College Sector-11, Chandigarh. Armed with the Post Graduate degree in Political Science, he pursued law from Panjab University from where he did LL.M. & Ph.D. (Law).
During early College days, he remained a sociopolitical student having held posts of President Students Union of Government College Sector 11, Chandigarh in 1978-79 and then President Student Council of Panjab University Chandigarh in the year 1981-82. Thereafter, he served as an elected member of the Senate and Syndicate for a continuous period from 1990 onwards (12 years) besides also serving as Dean Faculty of Law in 2003-04.
Entering legal profession in 1985, Mr. Sidhu in 1993 joined as Deputy Advocate General, Punjab and very diligently discharged his duties till 2005. He also served as Additional Advocate General (Punjab & Haryana) handling various extremely sensitive government and private matters in constitutional, criminal, civil, service and land matters before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh thus proving his legal acumen.
Designated as a Senior Advocate in the year 2007 and later appointed as the Assistant Solicitor General of India in the year 2008 till 2014, he also remained Special Public Prosecutor for CBI in the Punjab and Haryana High Court during this tenure.
Establishing his name in the legal circles by the dint of his hardwork and dedication, Mr. Sidhu was elected as a Member of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana for consecutive five terms from 1997 onwards eventually going on to become the Chairman of the apex regulating body of lawyers in the year 2001-02. Whilst practicing in the High Court, he remained the President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association for eight times (being the first to have elected these many times in any High Court in the country), lastly in 2018-19.
This doyen of the legal sphere is also a recipient of Parman Patra for exceptional social service, by the Punjab Government (the highest civilian award by the State).
