4 mobile phones seized during checking of barracks in Ferozepur jail
Ferozepur, May 17, 2022: During the three different search operations carried out, four mobiles one battery has been seized from the jail inmates and one unclaimed.
Frequent recoveries of mobiles from inside the jail, around 175 mobiles during the current year including four of today, from the possession of inmates and sometimes lying unclaimed has put a question mark on the security arrangements at the entry points.
As per the details, Jarnail Singh Assistant Superintendent during the checking of block number 2, barrack number 2, one mobile with SIM card and additional battery, as unclaimed was recovered lying in the ‘roshandan’. In another checking at barrack number around 10 am on May 15, one mobile from inmate Rajbir Singh, was recovered hide under the iron grill was fund. In the hird checking of barrack number 3, one mobile with battery and SIM car was found with battery and SIM card, as unclaimed and one mobile from inmate Jagsir Singh.
A case under the Prisons Act has been registered at the city police station and further investigations are with Pawan Kumar, IO. As usual, the matter ends with the registration of the case, as so far none of the cases has been solved.
According to police, in case of recovery of mobile phones or any other contraband, an FIR is lodged under the Prisons Act, which is a bail able offense. Due to this, they do not get custody of the accused inmates for questioning and can’t question them regarding how they got hold of the contraband.
However, the jail staff is on its toes to prevent rampant use of phones in the jail, said a jail official adding that attempt of throwing banned items over the high walls of jail was foiled by the staff on duty.
