Jalandhar, May 18, 2022: In a bid to further accelerate the pace of ongoing construction of underpasses at railway crossings in the district, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Wednesday directed the NHAI officials to strictly adhere to the deadlines with respect to various projects so that timely completion of these underpasses could be achieved.
Chairing a review meeting, the DC asserted that a feasibility survey should be conducted jointly by railways and PWD so as to ascertain the scope of construction of limited height subway (LHS) at Dhanowali railway crossing.
He further added that the railways have estimated the cost of this project to be nearly Rs. 4,61,19000, thereby asking the administration to carry out this project on a cost sharing basis wherein 50 percent of the project cost would be borne by the state government.
Thori has asked the PWD to conduct a feasibility survey in collaboration with the railways before this matter to be sent to the state government for the financial commitment.
Notably, the train traffic at the Dhanowali crossing has crossed the 1.15 lakh train units making it fit for this project.
The deputy commissioner reviewed the progress on construction of vehicular underpass (VUP) at the Dakoha railway crossing and directed the NHAI officials to further speed up the pace of this project.
The NHAI officials apprised the DC that the work would be completed by February 2023 and also discussed some of the issues being faced by the authority which the deputy commissioner asked to resolve at the earliest through consultation with other stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Thori also took stock of development achieved in the proposed under bridge at Tanda road railway crossing and asked officials to pursue it with railway's higher authorities for timely execution.
