Over 1000 graduates/undergraduates conferred with degrees in Govt College for Girls' convocation

Chandigarh, May 20, 2022: The 63rd Annual Convocation of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sec-11, Chandigarh, was held today. Professor Nishtha Jaswal,
Vice-Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The Convocation was inaugurated by the lighting of the Ceremonial Lamp by the Chief Guest and Principal Prof. Anita Kaushal which was followed by rendition of Saraswati Vandana by the students.
Prof. Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college presented the College Annual Report and outlined the illustrious achievements of the students in academics, co-curricular activities and sports.
She also underlined the contribution of Faculty as members of Academic Bodies of Panjab University and highlighted their endeavors in research and publications.
Enlisting the glorious progress made during the last session, she highlighted that the college has won many awards in Environmental conservation, Sustainable development practices and cleanliness at national and international level.
Additionally, the college has been felicitated for pioneering efforts towards Tree Plantation, Eat right campus and Beat Covid Campaign. Enumerating the infrastructural developments she mentioned that the college is first of its kind in the city to have a Solid Waste Management Plant, and Multimedia Centre and Research Block have been constructed.
The Principal proudly announced that the Institution Innovation Council of the college has been awarded Four Star Status by Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. Thus, it has carved a niche not only in the region but also in the country.
Congratulating the Graduates and Post-Graduates in her Convocation Address, Prof Nishtha Jaswal motivated the graduates that life is a learning process and one should have unity and uniformity in this process, Quoting from Rigveda and other holy scriptures, she encouraged the students to be united in their purpose and harmonious in their feelings.
She urged them to love themselves, their family and their country. Joy has no bounds, she observed and advised the graduates to remain jubilant, innovative and jovial throughout their life. Reciting a poem, she emphasized the motto of vasudev kutumbkam signifying understanding others, aiming at constructive competition and standing with people when they are in need.
More than 1000 Graduates and Post-Graduates were conferred degrees. 264 Post-Graduate degrees were awarded in Psychology, Public Administration, Economics, Dance, Music Vocal, Music Instrumental, Sociology, English, Fine Arts, M.Com, Information Technology, Botany, Physics, Zoology, Chemistry, and Computer Applications. In the Graduate category, 168 for B.Com. Pass Course, B.Com. Honours and BCA.; 262 for B.A. Honours; 152 for B.A. Pass Course; 193 Science graduates in B.Sc. Honours, B.Sc. Medical, B.Sc. Non-Medical, B.Sc. Computer Science; were conferred degrees.
More than 90 students of the college who secured positions in the Panjab University Examination and in college were felicitated on the occasion. 12 students who stood first in the Panjab University examinations were awarded Medals, and 17 were decorated with Roll of Honour by the Chief Guest for their outstanding achievements.
