Punjab Dairy Farming owners demand to ban wheat straw transportation to other states
Ferozepur, May 20, 2022: The dairy farming owners of Ferozepur today demanded to ban the wheat straw transportation to neighbouring states from Punjab.
Wheat straw is the stalk left over after wheat grains are harvested. Traditionally, it has been treated as a waste. In some countries, farmers burn it, contributing to air pollution and creating a public health hazard. However, these stalks still have value.
The transportation of wheat straw to other states has annoyed the farmers which are being used in the factories and in making bricks. It is mainly used in for livestock at dairies and the rehabilitated stray cattle but it is now available at double the rates. Normally, it is available at Rs.300 per qtl but not it is available in the market between Rs.800 to Rs.1000.
With the increase in wheat straw prices and cattle feed, the dairy farming owners are facing a lot of inconveniences and are not adequately available, and are thinking to leave the business.
Sajan Arora, Subhash, Sonu Gora, Pritam Singh, Nimma, Kali, Ankush, and Rahul have demanded from the government ban the transportation of wheat straw to other states, to save the dairy farming in Punjab.
