Fatehgarh Sahib/ Sirhind, May 24, 2022: Bir Devinder Singh, Former Deputy Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha hailed the Bhagwant Mann government for converting Sewa Kendras into Mohalla Clinics.
"The irrational decision to abruptly close down almost 1600 Sewa Kendras and shutting down the public utility services by the Government led by Capt. Amarinder Singh in 2017, was deplorably incongruous and absurd. There was seemingly no logical reason to shut down the public utility services of the Sewa Kendras by the then Government headed by Capt. Amarinder Singh, for no rhymes and reason. A reasonably large number of Public utility services were being rendered to the public at their doorstep, through these Sewa Kendra. I wonder who gave the reckless advice to Capt. Amarinder Singh shut down this public facility in the year 2017 which was created by incurring heavy costs out of the State exchequer. The abrupt closure of Sewa Kendras, without an application of mind, resultantly overcrowded the ‘Suvidha Kendras ’ at the District Head Quarters and also overburdened the workers with the heavy load of work, causing inordinate delays in the delivery of the services which further caused anguish and discomforts to the general public," said Bir Devinder Singh.
"It’s a good and laudable move of the Punjab government to utilize the infrastructure and the State of the Art facility of 140, foolishly discarded Sewa Kendras as ‘Mohalla Clinics’. I would appreciate it if the State Government also put to use the remaining 1460 defunct Sewa Kendars for the public utility services, which are lying abandoned, in a devastating state by the Government but I wish to apprise Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that the public is being exorbitantly charged for the services rendered by the Suvidha Kendras. The public deserves hassle-free service at very reasonable charges," he added.
